Ingredients to Avoid - Sulfates
Share
Sulfates make your shampoo foam up, but that lather comes at a cost. Chemicals like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), and even Sodium Coco Sulfate (often marketed as a “gentler” or “natural” option) can strip your scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness, flaking, and long-term irritation.
While Sodium Coco Sulfate is derived from coconut oil and may sound like a safer choice, it is chemically very similar to SLS and can be just as harsh — particularly for sensitive scalps or those experiencing hair thinning.
For optimal scalp health and to support hair regrowth with The newVital, we recommend avoiding all forms of sulfates.
Look out for:
-
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
-
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
-
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
-
Sodium Coco Sulfate
Better Alternatives:
-
Cocamidopropyl Betaine – A gentler surfactant derived from coconut oil that still gives you a light, satisfying lather.
-
Decyl Glucoside – A plant-based cleanser known for being non-irritating and ideal for sensitive scalps.
-
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate – A mild cleanser derived from coconut that leaves hair soft without stripping moisture.
Switching to sulfate-free alternatives helps preserve your scalp’s protective barrier — supporting a healthier foundation for growth.
